Framing is an Option
Today, matting and framing art is completely optional. Once considered
a requirement, framing art today is considered by many to be old-school. Many people for a variety of reasons, do not
frame all of their paintings, drawings and other art works. Often times art owners like a raw, casual
or spontaneous look for their room. Some artwork is actually more attractive without a frame. Typically art
looks larger, and more contemporary frameless.
Framing art
is a very personal choice - and there are many! There are now thousands of color, material, size, style,
matte and glass type options for you to choose from. If you choose, framing can be a segue from your
art to your wall, and the entire room. It's usually best to place your new art in your room, and then carefully consider
if you want or need a frame at all. If you do, you can begin to weigh all of the wonderful color and style options available
to you. There are thousands of stores that sell framing services and materials, so it should not be difficult for you to find
one locally.
Beware - Framing can be
costly! It is common for the price of framing to be an additional 10% to 40% of the art's original price.
Inexpensive self-matting & framing can often be purchased for less than $25 for small standard sized art works from
local craft and department stores. For larger paintings and drawings, professional framing (if desired) can range in
price from $75 to $1,000. You should feel free to experiment, and remember - framing is optional.
